Super Eagles coach Sunday Oliseh has resigned with immediate effect.
Oliseh tendered his resignation on Thursday after receiving the backlog of salaries owed him by the Nigeria Football Federation, a source in the governing body exposed.
The former Nigeria captain and his employers have been at loggerheads for weeks following the home-based Super Eagles’ early ouster from the African Nations Championship in January.
Oliseh did not take kindly to the criticism that trailed the CHAN outing and shot back via a YouTube video in which he exposed the NFF’s shoddy treatment of himself and his players, who were owed camp allowances and win bonuses and were left unmotivated throughout the tournament.
The former Juventus midfielder leaves the Eagles in the middle of key Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with back-to-back games against Egypt coming up in a month’s time.
Oliseh was appointed in July 2015 as successor to Stephen Keshi. Oliseh was in charge of 14 official matches, losing one friendly against DR Congo in Belgium and a CHAN group match against Guinea that led to ealy elimination in Rwanda.
