The 2015-2016 season ended a couple of months back with different teams topped as champions of their domestic leagues.

Nigerian players were not left out in the celebrations, as some of them picked up winners medals with their teams.
Here we have listed 10 Nigerian players who had the privilege of being called league champions…


EFE AMBROSE (Celtic, Scotland)
Super Eagles defender Efe Ambrose secured his fourth Scottish Premier League title after Celtic were crowned 2015-2016 winners.
Ambrose, featured in 21 of Celtic’s 38 league games.
He received just one red card in the entire campaign which was in a 0-0 draw against Hearts.

BROWN IDEYE (Olympiakos, Greece)
After a not too impressive spell with West Brom, who he joined in 2014 for a then record fee, Brown Ideye joined Olympiakos the following season and picked up the league title.
In his 24 league appearances for Olympiakos, Ideye found the back of the net 10 times.
His other success was with Dynamo kyiv, where he won the Ukrainian Super Cup and Ukrainian Cup in 2012 and 2014 respectively.
He has since earned a recall to the Super Eagles and featured in the wins against Mali and Luxembourg in friendly games.

AHMED MUSA (CSKA, Russia)
CSKA reclaimed the Russian league title in the just concluded season with Ahmed Musa playing a major part.
It was Musa’s second Russian league title after his first in the 2012-2013 season.
He was also top scorer for CSKA with 13 goals in 30 league appearances.
It has been reported that Premier League champions Leicester, have tabled £23 million for his signature.

JOHN OGU (Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Israel)
John Ogu capped a wonderful season with Hapoel Beer Sheva by lifting the Israeli league title.
The former Academica midfielder, who scored four goals in 34 league outings, was voted the best foreign player in the league.
He also finished third in the Player of the season award which was won by his club captain Elyanir Barda.

ANTHONY NWAKAEME (Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Israel)
Just like John Ogu, Anthony Nwakaeme, enjoyed a memorable season with Hapoel Beer Sheva by claiming the league title.
The forward played in 34 league games for Hapoel, scoring 11 goals.
He was Hapoel’s second top scorer behind Barda, who had 14 goals.

RABIU IBRAHIM (AS Trencin, Slovakia)
Rabiu Ibrahim secured his second Slovakian league title in the recently concluded season.
Rabiu was on target five times after making 26 league appearances for Trencin.
The diminutive playmaker’s only sour point of the season was when he got sent off in a 2-1 away win against Skalica in March this year.

KINGSLEY MADU (AS Trencin, Slovakia)
A young and exciting left-back, Kingsley Madu was a regular in Trencin’s successful league campaign.
Madu even got on the score sheet once in his 30 league appearances as he claimed his second league title with Trencin.

SAMUEL KALU (AS Trencin, Slovakia)
Unlike Rabiu and Madu who featured regularly for Trencin, Samuel Kalu saw action 13 times.
Despite his limited playing time, Kalu scored three goals to secure his first league title for Trencin.

NURUDEEN ORELESI (Skenderbeu, Albania)
FIFA 2009 U-20 World Cup star, Nurudeen Orelesi, secured a fourth Albanian league title as Skenderbeu emerged champions.
In the just concluded season, Orelesi made 15 appearances but didn’t get on the score sheet.

JAMES ADENIYI (Skenderbeu)
James Adeniyi was also a league winner with Skenderbeu, his first for the club.
Adeniyi scored six goals in 17 appearances, making him his side’s second top scorer in the league.
